Head of Operations (m/f/d)
Our customer is an international family-owned company and technology group headquartered in Hanau, Germany. The company’s roots go back to a family pharmacy started in 1660. Today, the group includes businesses in the environmental, electronics, health, and industrial applications sectors.
One of their start-up businesses focusses on the development and production of porous carbon additives increasing the performance of Lithium-ion batteries. On behalf of this enterprise, we are looking for a Head of Operations (m/f/d) to further scale-up the production.
Head of Operations (m/f/d) - Battery Technology
Your tasks:
- Leading the international production & process development as well as supply chain and logistics team (currently 2 sites: Netherlands + Germany)
- Responsible for on-time production of the different product grades according to customer-specific product quality requirements
- Management of direct reports, department budget planning and technical project execution for process modifications and/or capacity increases
- Identify and implement process and product optimization and cost saving potentials by automation, industrialization, and digitalization
- Cooperate with product developers to test new production methods on a large-scale
- Define a global manufacturing strategy and site selection criteria to develop a ramp-up plan for our performance carbon additive
- Prepare the organization for IATF16949 certification and participate in audits by customers and inspection bodies
- Definition of product and process KPIs and reporting them to the management
- Close cooperation with other departments, e.g. Sales, Innovation, Purchasing, Finance, Analytics, EHS, Legal
- Streamline and optimize logistics processes (packaging, shipment, customers)
- Serve as a first point-of-contact for environmental and permit topics
Your qualifications:
- Master’s degree in process/production engineering with relevant experience
- Proven experience with executing large CAPEX projects (>1 M€) in a chemical production environment, preferably including commissioning and start-up
- Experience with mechanical and thermal processes, in particular milling and carbonization
- Experience in working with quality management systems (IATF, ISO)
- Awareness of battery materials quality standards for automotive applications
- Understanding of product quality evaluations in Minitab or by other statistical tools
- Understanding of safety and risk mitigation methods and HAZOP studies
- Basic understanding of plant automation systems
- First leadership experience
- Ability to deal with fast-changing priorities
- Knowledge on working with SAP systems is a plus
- Good communication skills, ability to work in a team and openness to new tasks
- Good command of German and English language in speaking and writing
- Willingness to travel 25% of the time
- In the possession of a driving license
